Thieves targeting St. Joseph County farms are stripping irrigation systems for copper wiring, leaving farmers with expensive repairs.
Police have reported six thefts since February, including three last week.
Farmers say replacing the stolen wiring can cost up to $20,000-far exceeding what thieves make selling it.
They also warn the crime is dangerous, as live wires could seriously injure those attempting the thefts.
WSBT reports that St. Joseph County Police have received SIX reports of irrigation thefts from February, and three were made during the past week. Tommie Lee, MNC News.
