Indiana nonprofits feel a funding pinch from Executive Orders

A number of Indiana nonprofits say they’re facing uncertainty as recent Executive Orders from both the governor and the president have carved out part of their funding.

And some say only more uncertainty will follow. New federal and state policies have the government reevaluating public funding. WFYI reports the recent orders from President Trump and Governor Mike Braun targeting DEI, gender affirming care, and the environment have already resulted in cuts to nonprofit contracts and grants around Indiana.

New national analysis shows 2 in 3 nonprofits have at least one government funding source. Between 60-80%of those nonprofits are unlikely to be able to cover their expenses without government support.

There are 2051 non profits in Indiana with grants totaling more than $3.3 billion, including nearly $311 million in St. Joseph County and more than $170 million in Elkhart County.

If a non-government organization cannot exist without tax dollars, it’s not a non-government organization.

Good riddance to bad rubbish.
