Uncertainty remains following cancellation of COVID-19 spending deadline extension

 

Local school districts may still need to pay for projects expected to be covered by the federal COVID-19 relief funds, but the amount is likely less than previously reported. 

The Trump Administration recently canceled COVID-19 spending deadline extensions.

State officials initially said Michigan districts could be out more than $40 million, but the next day they issued a clarification and said the state had already paid districts more than half of the money.

However, as of Tuesday, the state education department still considered over $40 million to be in jeopardy.

Bridge Michigan states that it is unclear who is on the hook for picking up the tab if the federal government does not step in.
