The State of Michigan is expanding a program that allows gassing Canada geese using carbon dioxide and that’s drawing criticism from animal rights groups.
Bridge Michigan reports the new pilot program permits euthanizing geese in June on properties with over 100 birds or approved health concerns, if they’ve already destroyed nests earlier in the year.
USDA staff would carry out the process following veterinary guidelines.
Critics argue the method is inhumane, citing the geese’s ability to hold their breath and their strong family bonds.
The DNR says the effort is not aimed at population control, though Michigan’s goose numbers have exceeded target levels for years.

Seems like you can have special hunts?? The DNR has no plans on conservation, its all about the killing of wildlife. no respect quality hunting programs, these geese could be a great food source but we need the fear factor so the public can be bypassed. The DNR is another fleecing of American’s.
