LaPorte has lost over $1 million in federal grants, creating a major setback for the city and its police department.
The latest loss is a $400,000 technology grant intended to upgrade critical police equipment.
The LaPorte Police Department had planned to use the funds for tools that would improve efficiency, including tech upgrades for patrol cars and station equipment.
The city also lost $750,000 from a $1 million grant for tree removal, which was meant to help clear 900 dead or hazardous trees and revitalize the urban forest.

The entire Federal grant system is dumb. Instead of the Feds overtaxing and then handing those dollars back to local governments with strings attached, the Feds should drop their tax rate, the local gov should raise theirs and fund themselves for a change.

State and local governments depending on the Feds is asinine.
