As St. Joseph County citizens receive assessment and tax bills in the mail, county leaders are reminding homeowners there is a three-year tax cut for 55 and older residents available…
It was back in 2022 after hearing the outcry from local citizens frustrated with rising bills, the St. Joseph County Council passed a local ordinance that keeps tax bills on your home capped at no more than a 2 percent increase from the year prior.
Citizens who already took advantage of this temporary tax cut are seeing their savings for the first time this year on their tax bills… as the savings shows up on section 4D of the tax bill.
Residents who haven’t yet taken advantage of this savings still have two more years of the program to receive the cut.
To do so, apply at the auditor’s web site http://www.sjcindiana.gov/2302/auditor  at or call the office at 574-235-9668 to save on next year’s tax bill.
Eligibility for the program:
No income limits
No assessment limits
Be 55 or older
Have lived in your home 10 years
Have a homestead deduction
