Two men have been arrested and St. Joseph County Police are searching for a third suspect following a burglary call.
Around 12:30 p.m. on Monday, April 28, officers responded to reports of a burglary-in-progress in the area of Meadow Brook Lane and Cleveland Road.
Upon arrival, they located a truck parked near a pole barn, loaded with several pieces of metal siding. The nearby home appeared to be abandoned.
Shortly after, dispatch received a report from a witness who observed three males fleeing eastbound, jumping a fence and walking through tall grass near the Toll Road. Officers responded immediately to that location and successfully located and apprehended two suspects.
Clayton Morgan, 48. and Clarence Sons, 46. were arrested and booked into the St. Joseph County Jail. Both have been formally charged with Felony Theft.
Investigators are also crediting a witness who contacted police dispatch with critical information. They say their actions were instrumental in helping bring the suspects into custody.
Detectives are actively continuing their investigation, as a third suspect remains at large. Anybody with information is asked to contact the St. Joseph County Police Detective Bureau at 574-235-9569 or message them on Facebook or submit a tip online at: sjcpd.org/submit-a-tip. Or submit a tip to Michiana Crime Stoppers at 574-288-STOP or 800-342-STOP.
