Randolph County principal pushing to reshape high school sports

A principal in Randolph County is pushing for a change that could reshape high school sports in Indiana.
Union Jr./Sr. High School Principal Ryan Chiddister has proposed allowing two IHSAA schools to combine athletic teams if they have fewer than 300 students, not enough players or coaches, or inadequate facilities.
Union has around 120 students and can’t always offer every team sport. Chiddister said one year, the girls’ basketball team had just six players.

It’s a challenge, deal with it. In Jr Hi we had 18 kids for the entire offense and defense on our football team; we played every play. We went up against teams with over 50 kids. So what, it’s a game, deal with it and learn from the experience.
