Two men were arrested in connection with a burglary alarm at the Potawatomi Zoo.
At around 2:10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 6, South Bend Police responded to a call about the alarm in the 500 block of South Greenlawn Avenue. Security footage showed two men walking between the zoo’s fence and a vehicle.
Officers found 38-year-old Brian Gregorich, and Joshua Vance, 43, near the vehicle. The men claimed they stopped to let Gregorich’s dog out. However, police discovered a freshly cut section of the zoo’s fence.
An investigation revealed several tools, including bolt cutters, inside and outside the vehicle. Gregorich admitted to cutting the fence to walk around the zoo, though he denied entering. Vance denied any involvement.
Both men were arrested and taken to the St. Joseph County Jail on preliminary charges.
