Mishawaka woman hospitalized following Friday morning crash

A Mishawaka woman was taken to the hospital Friday morning after crashing her vehicle just outside Wakarusa.
The crash happened around 5:15 a.m. on Friday, May 9, on County Road 40, about 1.3 miles west of the city limits. According to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office, the driver was heading east when she fell asleep at the wheel and veered off the south side of the road, striking a guardrail.
The vehicle, a 2009 Dodge Caliber, sustained heavy front-end damage and came to a stop near 30285 County Road 40.
The driver, a 21-year-old woman, complained of right knee pain and was transported to Elkhart General Hospital for treatment. No passengers were in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
