Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating a turkey hunting mishap that happened in Rochester over the weekend.
The DNR’s investigation shows a man and a juvenile hunter were walking down a farm lane to access a property when a hunter on the adjacent property mistook the man’s movement for a turkey and fired in his direction.
Reports say the victim, a 41-year-old Nappanee man, suffered a gunshot wound to his head and neck from a 12-gauge shotgun.
He was taken to South Bend Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released.

Well DUH. Doesn’t a human look like a turkey?? That’s the way to do it. Hear a sound, blast away in the direction it came from! So much for hunter education. I am an old man. I was taught that you IDENTIFY your target and pay attention to what is beyond it!
I can understand mistaking a man for a bear, but for a turkey?!?
