Man sentenced to 5 years for machine gun possession

A man arrested for possession of a machine gun has been sentenced.

Reports say Dietrich Perkins was pulled over by Elkhart police in March of 2024 for not having taillights on his vehicle.

The Goshen News says the officer smelled marijuana and asked him to exit the vehicle., though Perkins questioned the order and reportedly kept trying to reach toward the floor board.

Officers found a 9mm handgun with a magazine inserted in the console along with a Glock switch, making the weapon fully automatic. Perkins was sentenced for possession of a machine gun and possession of marijusana.

He’ll serve a total of five years with the IDOC with two years suspended on reporting probation and the remaining three years on Elkhart County Community Corrections with a recommendation of home detention.

How long before Glock switches are found to be in “common use” and thus legal under Bruen.

And yes, there are cases using this exact argument in courts right now.
