Two people in Peru are in custody after police say shots were fired from inside their home while children were present.
Indiana State Police said law enforcement officials from the Miami County Sheriff’s Office and Peru City Police Department responded to a report of a burglary at a home in the Woodland Hills neighborhood of Peru just before 10 a.m. on May 12.
The preliminary investigation found that Michael A. Marr, 30, and Halie M. Thomas, 26, both of Peru, had discharged a firearm inside the home because they believed there were intruders present.
Upon further investigation, authorities found there to be no one else inside the residence at the time of the incident except two children. Investigators located multiple rounds that struck nearby unoccupied buildings. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
Marr and Thomas have each been charged with two counts of neglect of a dependent, a Level 6 Felony, criminal recklessness with a firearm, a Level 5 felony, and criminal mischief, a Class A misdemeanor. Marr and Thomas were taken into custody without incident and sent to the Miami County Jail.
An investigation is ongoing.
