A fire in Dowagiac claimed the lives of several dogs and destroyed a home.
Fire crews were called to the home in the 200 block of Marion Street around 6:40 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, and arrived within minutes to find heavy flames on multiple sides of a single-wide trailer. All people inside made it out safely, but several dogs were trapped and later found dead.
Dowagiac and Wayne Township firefighters worked together to contain the fire, which caused a total loss of the home.
Leader Publications says investigators ruled the fire accidental, caused by an electrical issue near an exterior entryway.
