Boy, 16, struck by train at tracks on South Merrifield in Mishawaka

It was a 16-year-old boy who died after being struck by a train on South Merrifield Avenue between 4th and 5th streets in Mishawaka.

Victor Smith-Moreland was a sophomore at Mishawaka High School.

Emergency responders arrived at the tracks shortly before 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21.

The high school had grief counselors on campus, Thursday, for students or staff to speak to.

Authorities haven’t fully released exactly what happened or the circumstances that led to the teen being hit.
