A domestic disturbance in the 100 block of Holly Drive escalated into a standoff, Sunday night, May 18, ending with the arrest of a 27-year-old man.
LaPorte County deputies were called to the residence around 8:35 p.m. after reports that the suspect, later identified as Davion C. Dunkins, had assaulted two family members and threatened them with a knife before barricading himself inside the home.
Deputies secured the perimeter and confirmed Dunkins was still inside. The Sheriff’s Office Hostage Crisis Negotiation and Emergency Response Teams (ERT) were dispatched to the scene.
Crisis negotiators communicated with Dunkins for an extended period, but he refused to surrender. ERT officers then forced entry, deploying a K9 unit. Dunkins eventually called out to deputies and agreed to give himself up.
He was taken into custody without further incident and transported to the La Porte County Jail. Dunkins faces three felony counts of intimidation, two counts of domestic battery (Level 5 and Level 6 felonies), and a misdemeanor count of resisting law enforcement. He is being held on a $15,005 cash-only bond.
