Officers in LaPorte County arrested a 21-year-old man after they say he was intoxicated and caused a crash on U.S. 20.

Police responded to the 4600 west block of the highway around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 31, for a report of a domestic incident and crash.

They found a 17-year-old girl near a crashed vehicle.

She told police that Caleb Austin, who was riding with her, hit her while she was driving and then grabbed the steering wheel.

The vehicle veered off the road, but she managed to bring it to a stop and get out safely.
