Former House speaker stands trial on corruption charges

(95.3 MNC)
Former Michigan House Speaker Lee Chatfield and his wife, Stephanie, will stand trial on felony charges of racketeering, embezzlement, and misuse of funds.
A district judge recently ruled there is enough evidence to move the case to trial.
Lee Chatfield faces 13 felony counts tied to the alleged misuse of political, nonprofit, and taxpayer money during his time as House Speaker from 2019 to 2020.
Stephanie Chatfield faces two counts and is accused of helping with the scheme. Both have pleaded not guilty.
Bridge Michigan reports that prosecutors presented evidence of lavish spending and vacations, sometimes involving some former aides, who face similar charges in a separate case.
