A wanted man is in custody after leading authorities on a high-speed chase early Thursday morning that began in South Bend and ended in a Mishawaka parking lot.
The pursuit began when an officer with the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Warrants Division attempted to stop a green Dodge Caravan near McKinley Avenue and Twyckenham Drive. The driver, later identified as 39-year-old Rodney Keith Robertson, refused to pull over, prompting a pursuit.
The Indiana State Police deployed stop sticks, successfully ending the chase in the Dunkin’ Donuts parking lot at 2774 Lincoln Way East in Mishawaka. Robertson tried to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended.
Authorities say Robertson was wanted on several warrants out of Elkhart County, including probation violations for escape, possession of methamphetamine, unlawful possession of a syringe, operating a vehicle while endangering a person, theft, and being a habitual traffic violator.
In addition to the outstanding warrants, Robertson now faces new charges of resisting law enforcement both in a vehicle and on foot.
A female passenger in the vehicle was questioned and released at the scene without charges.
