The Elkhart County Homicide Unit is actively investigating after the Elkhart Police Department dispatched to a fatal shooting at the Daylite Inn at 2820 Cassopolis Street in Elkhart.

It was just beofer 1 a.m. on Tuesday, June 24, when dispatchers got a 911 call reporting a shooting with injuries at 2820 Cassopolis Street. Elkhart Police Department officers and first responders dispatched to the scene and arrived shortly thereafter. Upon arrival, officers found Allen L. Cogswell, 35, of Elkhart with an apparent gunshot wound(s) inside a room at the Daylite Inn. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Elkhart County Homicide Unit is handling this active and ongoing investigation.
