An officer-involved shooting took place early Sunday morning, June 29, 2025, near a Phillips 66 station on Pipestone Road after officers attempted to arrest a suspect fleeing from a previous weapons complaint.
At around 2:30 a.m., officers from the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety were clearing out a nuisance party at the gas station when they received information that a male, wanted for possessing a weapon, was seated in a car on Pipestone. Two uniformed officers arrived at the scene with their emergency lights on, but as they approached the suspect, he fled on foot.
The officers pursued the suspect on foot, with one attempting to deploy a TASER. However, the device was ineffective as only one probe connected. The suspect ran through the crowd and towards Pipestone Street, where the officers continued their pursuit.
As the suspect neared a parked vehicle, he reached inside in an attempt to open the door. The driver of the vehicle tried to flee but swerved toward an officer while the suspect clung to the window. The vehicle accelerated, dragging the suspect as it sped away.
In an attempt to prevent the vehicle from hitting an officer, the officer discharged his service pistol in self-defense. The vehicle continued south on Pipestone Road before being stopped near Ravine Street. The male suspect was taken into custody without further incident.
No injuries were reported among the individuals involved, including the suspect or the vehicle occupants. The Michigan State Police has been requested by the BHDPS to investigate the officer-involved shooting.

The way politicians lie to get their way they’re never upfront about everything. Hopefully yeah, what I’m hearing is not true about needy people being cut off from the assistance they need in the future because of these tax cuts. There’s nothing wrong with tweaking a system that needs to be tweaked and what if it ends up hurting those that really truly need the assistance it’s not fair to those in need,PERIOD How can we find these things out before passing it and make the necessary changes so that those things won’t happen!
