D.C. man dies after hit-and-run on Jefferson Blvd; Driver identified and cooperating

Authorities have identified the pedestrian killed in a hit-and-run crash early Monday morning on the city’s south side.

The victim, Jaivon Ugene Best, 31, of Washington, D.C., was struck around 6:10 a.m. on Monday, June 30 in the 10200 block of Jefferson Boulevard. Officers and medics arrived to find Best in critical condition. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

According to initial findings, Best had been walking along Jefferson Boulevard when he was hit by a vehicle traveling eastbound. The driver left the scene but has since been identified as an 18-year-old woman from Goshen. Investigators say the driver been located and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

The St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team was called in to handle the case, as is standard procedure in serious traffic incidents.

No charges have been announced as of Tuesday, and the investigation remains active.
