Motorcyclist injured in deer-related crash in Cass County

A woman from Elkhart was hospitalized after crashing her motorcycle while trying to avoid a deer in Cass County.

Cass County sheriff’s deputies were called to the roundabout at Gumwood and Redfield roads in Milton Township just before midnight on Thursday, July 3.

According to the investigation, the 58-year-old woman was traveling north on Gumwood Road when a deer entered the roadway. She attempted to swerve to avoid it, lost control of the motorcycle, and struck a curb.

The woman, who was not wearing a helmet, sustained non-life-threatening injuries. She was transported by ambulance to Memorial Hospital in South Bend.

The crash remains under investigation.
