Portage Township has announced a partnership to help revitalize Matthys Ballpark.

A partnership with Matthys Little League will allow for a renovation and reopening of the park, which hundreds of families have used since 1955.

Two large fires at the property last year left residents concerned about the vulnerability of the space, but the township and partners are dedicated to taking the steps to fill the stands again.

They’re hoping to have reconstruction finished by next year.
