Applications for the South Bend Police Department’s Fall Citizens Police Academy are officially open.

The free academy will be on Tuesday evenings from August 12 through October 7, running from 6 to 9 p.m. each Tuesday.

Participants will have a chance to participate in hands-on, interactive lessons from specialty units of the department including patrol, SWAT, bomb squad, K9 unit, narcotics enforcement and more.

It’s open to anyone 18 and older and without any felony convictions. You can apply on the SBPD website.
