Goshen City Council is considering a new municipal wheel tax for residents within the Maple city limits.
This, as a new state law that mandates municipalities to impose such fees in order to access state funds for road maintenance.
The Goshen News reports that proposed annual fee would be $25 for passenger cars and $40 for heavier vehicles like trucks, RVs, and trailers.
Goshen Mayor Gina Leichty says all the estimated $750,000 revenue would be dedicated to improving city streets.
The council has already approved the ordinance on first reading by a 6-1 vote. The final vote will take place during the next council meeting on Monday, August 25.
The public is encouraged to attend and share their views.

Oh isn’t this beautiful? The county already imposes a “wheel tax!” Will the “municipal wheel tax” be in combination with the county tax?! I hope you people aren’t fooled by the statement that the money will be used for the roads! The adjacent county I live in has a ridiculously high wheel tax. Have the roads been improved since the tax was implemented? NO,, the money goes into the general fund while the roads continue to deteriorate!!
