Fatal police shooing in Chesterton ruled self defense

The fatal police shooting of a man in Chesterton has been ruled self-defense by the Porter County Prosecutor.
According to the final report, 45-year-old Joseph Gerber of Winimac was shot and killed after he fled from officers at a hotel and shot Officer Nolan Mancera.
The investigation found that Gerber had a significant amount of methamphetamine in his system.
While Gerber was fatally shot by officers, the injured Officer Mancera is expected to make a full recovery.
