Indiana corrections officials reverse decision to close Indiana State Prison

Indiana corrections officials have reversed an earlier decision to close the Indiana State Prison.
Despite plans to shut down the Michigan City lockup when a new facility opens in 2027, the state now says the prison will remain open indefinitely.
The change in plans comes as Indiana’s incarcerated population continues to grow.
While the new Northwest Indiana Correctional Facility is still set to open as scheduled, the aging state prison will continue to operate.
