A 25-year-old South Bend man has been sentenced to more than eight years in federal prison for unlawful possession of a firearm connected to two neighborhood shootings.
Zai’Vohn Perry was sentenced to a total of 101 months in prison by U.S. District Court Judge Damon R. Leichty after pleading guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm and possessing a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking, Acting U.S. Attorney M. Scott Proctor announced.
Court records show that in January 2024, Perry exchanged gunfire in two separate daylight shootings in South Bend neighborhoods. In one incident, he fired 17 rounds in a residential area. A week later, he was involved in another gunfight, again firing multiple shots.
Investigators later searched his home and recovered two firearms, including the weapon used in both shootings. Officers also seized more than 100 fentanyl pills and marijuana packaged for distribution.
Perry received 41 months in prison on one count and 60 months on the other, with the sentences to be served consecutively. He will also serve three years of supervised release once his prison term is completed.
