Hoosiers warned of recent government-poser scam

Secretary of State Diego Morales is warning Hoosiers of a recent scam.

The Indiana Securities Division has seen a rise in reports of scammers posing as government employees or agencies.

They’re attempting to trick people into believing their accounts have been hacked, pressuring victims to move their money and often resulting in financial losses.

They say a Hoosier recently lost nearly $2 million after scammers posed as Homeland Security and convinced him to wire funds.

Hoosiers should know that the government will never ask for money through wire transfer, cryptocurrency or gift cards, and you can always contact the Indiana Securities Division before sending money.
