After facing years of issues like fires and thefts, the historic Matthys Ballpark in South Bend is open again.
The reopening, celebrated with a ribbon-cutting and exhibition games, marks the end of a long renovation project led by the park’s president, Shad Robakowski, and Portage Township Trustee Jason Critchlow.
The revitalized ballpark, which has also partnered with the South Bend Cubs, hopes to host future tournaments and events for the community.
