Berrien County sees string of U-Haul break-ins

A string of U-Haul-fueled break-ins has shaken a quiet Hagar Township neighborhood in Berrien County.

Police say what began as a home burglary in late September turned into a dangerous chase after thieves fled in a U-Haul truck. The suspects backed into a police cruiser before crashing into a tree.

The driver, 47-year-old Ira Clough of South Haven, was arrested, but two others are still on the run.

More thefts involving U-Hauls have been reported in the area since then, and the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office is urging neighbors to report any suspicious activity immediately.
