Former Baroda-Lake Township Police Chief Shawn Martin has been charged with six counts of embezzlement.

The charges stem from incidents between 2019 and 2024. Martin faces one count of embezzlement between $50,000 and $100,000, three counts by a public official over $50, and two counts between $1,000 and $20,000.

Martin was placed on unpaid leave earlier this year after the Michigan State Police investigation began.

Lt. Wes Koza is serving as interim chief and says Martin will remain on unpaid leave pending the outcome of the case.
