The results of Indiana’s PFAS Biomonitoring Pilot Program are now public.

And they confirm widespread exposure to toxic “forever chemicals” among firefighters across every Indiana Preparedness District.

According to the Indiana Department of Homeland Security’s final report, most participating firefighters fall into medium-risk exposure levels, with high-risk PFAS levels found in multiple districts statewide.

No region of Indiana was unaffected. Bauer says the findings confirm long-standing concerns raised by firefighters and their families.

PFAS exposure is linked to cancer, thyroid disease, immune dysfunction and reproductive harm. Officials say the data will help guide prevention, early medical intervention and future policy decisions.
