A 36-year-old South Bend man has been charged in the shooting death of a Mishawaka man earlier this month.
The St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office announced that Tonell Jhakkar Williams has been formally charged with one count of murder in the killing of 21-year-old Jacob Kenneth Patchen.
Police were called to the 100 block of Angela Boulevard around 7:20 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 11, after reports of gunfire near Michigan Street. Officers arrived to find Patchen critically wounded inside a vehicle. He was transported to a hospital, where he later died.
Investigators said community tips helped identify Williams as the suspect in the case.
A judicial officer found probable cause for the charge and ordered that Williams be held without bond at the St. Joseph County Jail. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday, Jan. 21, at 1 p.m.
The murder charge carries a sentencing range of 45 to 65 years.
