The St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office has filed charges against Tyler Wayne Straub, 31, of Mishawaka, in connection with a Jan. 21 crash that killed 58-year-old Pedro Rosales of South Bend.
Prosecutors allege Straub was fleeing police when his vehicle collided with another at the intersection of Sample Street and Michigan Street, resulting in Rosales’ death. After reviewing the case, the Prosecutor’s Office charged Straub with three counts: resisting law enforcement causing death (Level 3 felony), resisting law enforcement (Level 5 felony), and operating a motor vehicle without ever receiving a license (Class A misdemeanor).
According to charging documents, a judicial officer found probable cause and formally filed the charges. Straub remains in custody at the St. Joseph County Jail and is expected to be arraigned on Friday, January 23, 2026.
Under Indiana law, a Level 3 felony carries a sentencing range of 3 to 16 years, a Level 5 felony ranges from 1 to 6 years, and a Class A misdemeanor is punishable by up to one year in jail.
