Police investigating deadly shooting in Benton Harbor

Police are investigating a deadly shooting that happened early Sunday morning in Benton Harbor.

Officers with the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety responded to reports of shots fired in the 600 block of Columbus Avenue during the early morning hours of Feb. 1.

While canvassing the area, officers found a 21-year-old man suffering from gunshot injuries. The victim was treated at the scene and transported to a hospital, where he later died. His name has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

Detectives say the investigation is ongoing and no suspect has been identified at this time.

Authorities are asking anyone with information related to the shooting to contact Detective Wresinski at 616-401-1368 or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-342-7867.
