One of two teens accused in an armed robbery and carjacking in Elkhart’s Brookside Manor has had his trial delayed.

19-year-old Jason Blackman Jr. of Chicago appeared in court Thursday, where his trial was continued from February 16 to May 4. Police say Blackman and 17-year-old Kemountae Coleman were accused of stealing a man’s truck at gunpoint in December 2021.

Deputies later spotted the stolen vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver fled, leading officers on a three-mile chase that ended when the truck crashed into a utility pole.

The Goshen News says both suspects ran from the scene before being taken into custody. Coleman previously pleaded guilty and was sentenced in 2022. Blackman’s trial status conference is set for April 9.
