A resolution honoring the life and legacy of legendary Lou Holtz has been introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Rudy Yakym announced the measure Wednesday in Washington, D.C. The resolution, H.Res.1122, recognizes Holtz for his impact as a national championship-winning coach, author, and mentor.
Yakym was joined in introducing the resolution by fellow Indiana lawmakers James Baird and Mark Messmer, along with Pat Fallon and Mike Kelly.
Yakym called Holtz “a legend in every sense of the word,” citing his accomplishments as a coach, bestselling author, and media personality. Yakym said Holtz left a lasting impact on countless people, including many who played for him at University of Notre Dame.
Baird described Holtz as a “legendary Hoosier” whose leadership shaped generations of Notre Dame football players and traditions.
Messmer highlighted Holtz’s faith and dedication to his family and players, saying Hoosiers were fortunate to have him lead the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football program.
Fallon said Holtz spent decades shaping college athletes into men of character, while Kelly said the coach exemplified leadership both on and off the field and helped prepare young players for life beyond football.
The House resolution follows similar action in the Senate. Earlier this week, the United States Senate unanimously passed a resolution honoring Holtz introduced by Todd Young, Jim Banks, and Chris Coons.
