The Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office has filed charges against a woman accused of fleeing police in a stolen vehicle and causing multiple crashes.

Police say 48-year-old Sarah Bender of Elkhart allegedly took a Toyota Tundra without permission Friday night from the 54000 block of Oakwood Street.

Officers located the vehicle minutes later near Bristol and Silver Streets, where investigators say Bender struck a police cruiser before continuing to flee.

Authorities say the truck later rear-ended one vehicle, pushing it into another.

No injuries were reported. Bender was taken into custody shortly after and showed signs of impairment.

She now faces several charges, including auto theft and resisting law enforcement.
