An Elkhart man has been sentenced in connection to an armed robbery earlier this year.

According to court documents, police responded to the 1000 block of West Mishawaka Road in May of last year after a reported robbery.

Investigators say the suspect, identified as “Big Rick,” later confirmed as Frederick Helm Jr., went to the victim’s apartment to collect money allegedly owed to another person.

Police say when the victim hesitated, Helm grabbed his wallet, then pulled a handgun and threatened him before taking 87 dollars.

The Goshen News says officers later located Helm during a traffic stop near Fifth and Vistula streets, where he eventually confessed to the crime.

Helm was sentenced to seven years in prison, with two years suspended to probation for armed robbery.
