A community event aimed at reducing identity theft is scheduled for this weekend in Michiana.
Michiana Crime Stoppers will host its Spring Shredding Event on Saturday, May 2, at the St. Joseph County Fairgrounds from 8 a.m. to noon.
The event is held twice a year and invites residents to safely dispose of sensitive documents. A minimum $20 donation is requested, with proceeds supporting Crime Stoppers programs.
Organizers say the event will operate as a drive-thru and will take place rain or shine. Participants are encouraged to bring documents in boxes or untied garbage bags, with volunteers handling all unloading.
Officials say the shredding effort helps protect the community from identity theft while also supporting the nonprofit’s mission.
Crime Stoppers representatives are also offering to appear on local newscasts this week to help promote the event.
