Penn Township leaders in Cass County have approved a 30-day moratorium on data center development.

The decision came during a packed township board meeting Monday night, where residents voiced concerns about rumors of a possible data center project in the area.

Township officials say the temporary moratorium will give leaders time to develop formal language for a longer-term policy.

The Diamond Lake Association recently requested at least a two-year moratorium on data center development.

Officials stressed that no land in Penn Township has been sold for a data center project at this time.

Township leaders say a future planning board session focused on the issue will be scheduled in a larger venue to accommodate public interest.
