Officer shot inside Michigan City hospital, suspect arrested

A police officer was shot inside the emergency room at Franciscan Health Michigan City.

The shooting happened around 7:15 a.m. CDT on Friday, May 22.

Authorities say the officer was last listed in critical but stable condition, according to Fox 32 Chicago.

Police later arrested a suspect in nearby woods.

Indiana State Police is leading the investigation and says more information will be released as it becomes available.

Hospital officials say there is no active threat to patients, staff, or the community. The emergency department remains on ambulance bypass, but walk-in patients are still being accepted through the hospital’s main entrance.

Franciscan Physician Network offices on the hospital campus are closed for now, while all other hospital services remain open as normal.
