St. Joseph County officials are moving forward with plans for the future of the former Portage Manor property.
The County Council approved a resolution allowing commissioners to officially accept proposals and bids for the property.
The former assisted living facility closed three years ago.
Interested groups, including St. Thomas More Academy, are expected to receive proposal requests by the end of this week. County leaders say the property includes nearly $1 million worth of developed land and buildings, along with agricultural land appraised at about $2.6 million.
All submitted proposals will be made public before a final decision is made.
In other business, the St. Joseph County Council voted to buy 15 new snow trucks.
Members also voted to start the process to restore or replace small bridges.
They also voted to allow, with restrictions, tiny houses in the backyards of residential properties, though with a number of rules to follow.
