Teen injured in early Monday morning Elkhart shooting

An 18-year-old man was injured in an early morning shooting in Elkhart.

Police were called to the 300 block of South 5th Street just before 3 a.m. on Monday, June 8, after receiving a 911 call reporting a shooting with injuries.

When officers arrived, they found an 18-year-old male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to his hand or finger. The victim told investigators he had been attending a gathering in a nearby parking lot when he heard one or more gunshots and then realized he had been struck.

The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated for his injuries.

Officers collected evidence at the scene, and no arrests have been made. The investigation remains ongoing.
