U.S. Representative Rudy Yakym has introduced a bipartisan resolution supporting the designation of June 7-13, 2026, as National Trailer Safety Week.
Yakym said the effort is aimed at promoting safe trailer towing practices while supporting workers in the manufacturing industry, a key economic driver in Indiana’s 2nd District.
“I came to Congress to fight every day for manufacturing jobs, the backbone of Indiana’s Second District. And to protect those jobs, we must first protect the hardworking Hoosiers doing them,” Yakym said. “That starts with making sure every American who hitches up a trailer, whether it’s a towable RV, a cargo trailer, or a flatbed hauling equipment, knows how to do it safely.”
According to industry officials, trailer-related accidents result in hundreds of deaths and roughly 21,000 injuries nationwide each year.
The resolution highlights the importance of educating motorists on proper towing practices, trailer maintenance, and safety standards. Supporters say increased awareness can help reduce crashes and improve safety on America’s roadways.
The National Association of Trailer Manufacturers praised the resolution, noting that nearly one million new trailers are added to U.S. roads each year and that public education remains critical to safe towing.
