A Westville man has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with a fatal shooting earlier this month in La Porte County.
The La Porte County Sheriff’s Office announced that 35-year-old John T. Jackson was formally charged with murder following an investigation into the death of 64-year-old James D. Williams.
Deputies responded on the evening of June 8 to a residence in the 2900 block of West U.S. 20 after receiving a report of a person suffering from a gunshot wound. When officers arrived, they located Williams and secured the scene.
Williams was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives with the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division took over the case and spent the following days gathering evidence and conducting interviews.
According to investigators, Jackson emerged as a suspect during the investigation. He was arrested on June 16 and lodged in the La Porte County Jail.
Investigators submitted their findings to the La Porte County Prosecutor’s Office, and Jackson was formally charged with murder in La Porte Circuit Court on Tuesday.
Jackson remains jailed on a $1 million bond.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact La Porte County Sheriff’s Office Chief of Detectives Captain Andy Hynek.
