South Bend is celebrating another major investment in affordable housing.

The city has secured its eleventh Low-Income Housing Tax Credit award in just four years, bringing total investment in affordable housing developments since 2023 to nearly 292 million dollars.

City officials say the projects will create or renovate more than 1,000 affordable housing units across South Bend for working families, seniors, and residents with the greatest housing needs.
Mayor James Mueller says each award helps provide safe, stable housing while attracting millions of dollars in private investment to the community.
The federal tax credit program is administered in Indiana through the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority and is the state’s primary tool for financing affordable rental housing. Officials say only Indianapolis has received more tax credit awards during the same period.
The latest round of projects includes new developments and renovations on the city’s west, south, and downtown areas, with total investment now topping 291 million dollars.
