Roseland leaders say the town’s finances are improving following last year’s investigation into the former clerk-treasurer.

During last week’s Town Council meeting, officials said bills continue to be paid and the town now has nearly $500,000 in its bank accounts. Council President Jeff Schalk said the current clerk-treasurer has been working without pay since January to help stabilize the town’s finances.

The state investigation centered on missing checks, incomplete records, and more than $11,000 in questionable purchases. Schalk also addressed recent social media allegations of financial misconduct, saying anyone with evidence should provide it to state investigators rather than post accusations online. No members of the public spoke during the meeting.
